Director, Advancement (Planned Giving)

Kent State University is seeking a highly-motivated professional with exceptional fundraising abilities to serve as its Director of Advancement for Planned Giving.  This position is primarily responsible for managing a portfolio of major, leadership, and principal gift prospects in order to generate private gift support for the university.  Reports to the Assistant Vice President, Center for Gift & Estate Planning.

The essential functions of this position are:

Develop and implement cultivation strategies in consultation with other professional development staff for generating private financial support through deferred and current gifts.
Manage an individual pool of major, leadership, and principal gift prospects, and move prospects through discovery, cultivation and solicitation through personal visits and other strategies.
Assist in the University’s capital campaign; cultivate and solicit individuals within Ohio and in nationally assigned regions.
Prepare appropriate documentation for donor funds.
Serve as a Planned Giving Resource to other advancement officers and their assigned college Dean/Director, faculty and staff as required.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and three to four years progressively responsible fundraising and/or sales experience required.  Ability and desire to travel and participate in evening and weekend work-related activities are required.  Experience in higher education fundraising is preferred.  Knowledge of Planned Giving, and/or experience in working with the older adult population is a plus. Ability to work collaboratively with Institutional Advancement team and academic administrative leadership.
