Overall Responsibilities: The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes is looking for an Events Manager to manage small and large events from start to finish, including leading staff and external contractors.  Under the direction of the Director of Development, the Events Manager serves as the primary point of contact and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Nature Center’s fundraising and donor stewardship events and quarterly art exhibits.  Duties include collaborating and coordinating with the marketing department, facilities department, volunteer coordinator and development department staff to plan, budget, market, staff, execute and follow-up with approximately 12 events of varying size per year.

 

Duties Include:

Fundraising and Stewardship Events (4 fundraising and 6-8 stewardship events per year)

Conceptualize and execute events that align with Nature Center’s mission and will raise funds and/or strengthen relationships for the organization.
Work with Facilities Staff to design and execute event layouts, including set up and tear down.
Work with Volunteer Coordinator to recruit volunteers to serve on planning committees and volunteer for signature events.
Serve as primary Nature Center contact for committee volunteers and event chairpersons.
Supervise consultants and volunteers as required.
Oversee all logistics and provide on-site management for all events.
Work with other Development Staff to solicit corporate sponsorships, silent auction items, and in-kind donations.
Work with Marketing Staff to create marketing collateral and ensure that events are expertly marketed, including writing event press releases.
Coordinate all post-event follow-up, acknowledgment and evaluation.
Create and manage budget and projected revenue for all events.
Create event reports for Development Director, President & CEO, and Board of Trustees as needed.
Engage the Board of Trustees in the event planning process as appropriate.
Stay current in the development field and practice within the AFP Code of Ethics.
 

Art-on-View Program (4 per year)

Solicit and vet potential artists for exhibition.
Schedule exhibit and artist’s reception.
Work with Facilities Department to arrange and hang artwork.
Work with Marketing Department to promote receptions and exhibits.
Attend and work with Visitor Services Manager to schedule Nature Center staff to oversee artist’s reception.
Other Duties:

Assist in other development activities as needed.
Prepare budgets and income statements for all events.
Contribute to the writing and editing of the Nature Center’s newsletter as related to special events.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:

Four-year degree
Minimum of two years of experience in special event planning (five years preferred)
Excellent interpersonal skills/ability to work with a wide variety of personalities
Ability to establish and build relationships for the Nature Center
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to organize, prioritize, adapt to change, and handle multiple projects
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Experience working within an organizational structure and with both internal and external people
Ability to think creatively and to market the Nature Center’s needs effectively
Big picture thinker with ability to manage multiple details
Ability to develop plans and timelines and follow through to completion
Computer proficiency in Word, Excel and other Microsoft applications
Mastery of internet and non-internet research tools
High motivation and resourcefulness
