Development Director

Under the general direction of the Chief Communications & External Relations Officer, the Director of Development will lead the implementation of the fund development program for Cuyahoga County Public Library and the Cuyahoga County Public Library Foundation. The Director of Development will supervise the team responsible for raising contributed revenues in support of Library operations and programs through donations, private and government grants, events, planned giving and capital campaigns from individuals, corporations, foundations and government supporters. The position is a key member of the Communications & External Relations Division and interacts regularly with the Executive Director and both operating and Foundation board members to achieve CCPL’s annual fundraising goals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Ability to motivate and lead a team of development professionals
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing a fundraising program.
Extensive personal experience and success with significant fundraising “asks”
Knowledge of, and network contacts within, the Greater Cleveland philanthropic community
Proficient with donor database systems and Microsoft Office suite
Experience with large special event management
Experience with private, community and government grant-seeking and submissions
Knowledge or experience with planned giving and legacy programs
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Understanding of basic financial reporting and budget planning, especially as it relates to donation tracking and reporting
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects/events simultaneously
High achiever with strong interpersonal skills
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Complies with Cuyahoga County Public Library’s policies, rules, guidelines, procedures, requirements, standards, and practices applicable to the job, including (but not limited to) work scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property, computer use, personal conduct, and confidentiality.
Works with staff members to plan, prepare and implement CCPL fundraising efforts within each constituency across all fundraising activities
Regularly review ROI of fundraising events and activities relative to best practices
Work with Chief Executive Officer and Chief Communications & External Relations Officer to build relationships with key funders and donors
Works with board members to identify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors
Implements a long-term comprehensive plan to increase contributed revenue and build a more sustainable, diversified donor base
Oversees grant submissions, event planning, annual giving and all major fundraising initiatives
Helps to build a stronger culture of philanthropy within CCPL and its branches
Communicates CCPL case for support to all constituents and communities it serves
Maintains positive relationships with donors/funders
Serves as primary staff liaison to Foundation Board and its committees
Summary Minimum Education & Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree in related field
CFRE certification or ongoing professional development in the field
Minimum 10 years professional non-profit fundraising or relevant experience
Fundraising leadership, supervisory and departmental management experience
Budget and plan development experience
OTHER TESTING/LICENSES REQUIRED

A criminal background check is required, as are pre-employment drug and nicotine screens.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Work typically takes place in an office environment.
The role requires frequent transportation to and work at the offices of various community stakeholders.
Work requires occasional light lifting, such as materials to be handed out at presentations, books, or reams of paper (up to 25 pounds).
Routine discomforts associated with frequent computer use.

Compensation: $95,000 – $125,000
