The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking a Grants Manager. We are looking for an experienced fundraising professional with significant experience in grant writing. The individual must be committed to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable and profitable energy economy and be willing to invest in learning how IEEFA’s energy finance research and communication strategies support this mission around the world. This is a hybrid remote/in-person position, including some in-office work in our Lakewood, Ohio office. Candidates who live in the Greater Cleveland area are preferred.

IEEFA’s $12M annual budget is 99% funded through grants from over 30 public, private, and family foundations, including a significant portion of multi-year and general support grants. Our funding is highly relationship-driven. While most of our funding comes from US-based funders, we also receive support from foundations in Europe, Asia, and Australia.

IEEFA is a rapidly-growing not-for-profit organization that conducts research and analysis on financial and economic issues related to energy markets, trends and policies. Headquartered in the United States, IEEFA has a team of analysts and communications personnel located in 15 countries across the globe.  IEEFA produces a significant volume of original research, as well as ongoing analysis and reports on issues affecting energy industries. Grants Manager

Roles and Responsibilities

Grant Coordinating (approximately 60% of time)

  • Maintains a Salesforce database of grant proposals and reports, funder contact info, and other relevant information and documentation; manages and tracks grant documentation submissions and funder communication
  • Creates and manages systems to track grant deliverables against organizational activities; develops and manages schedules for grant proposals and reports and ensures that deadlines are met; monitors spending against grant budgets; monitors compliance with grant and contract stipulations and regulations and ensures grants and contracts are implemented accordingly
  • Provides support to program staff to ensure adherence to all requirements of various grants and to ensure all grant lifecycle activities are completed on budget and within proper time constraints
  • Manages the donor acknowledgement process, ensuring that all funders are appropriately and formally thanked for their financial support
  • Assists Director of Grants and Development with prospecting, funder communication and donor outreach as needed

Grant Writing (approximately 40% of time)

  • Researches, prepares, and writes grant proposals and reports
  • Gathers and synthesizes information on IEEFA’s programmatic work; communicates with program staff regularly to understand organizational priorities and impact
  • Submits proposals, reports and requested documentation through various funder online portals, troubleshooting and communicating with funder staff as needed
  • Maintains knowledge of requirements, practices, and procedures for soliciting, writing, receiving, reviewing, and processing proposals, and administering grants
  • Assists with the overall grant management policies and procedures in accordance with industry best practices; strengthens organizational efficiency by improving and tracking grant material processes: proposals, contracts, and funder requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintaining a grants management system (commercial or locally created); including monitoring grant deliverables, timelines and grant spending
  • Minimum of 2 years demonstrated success in grant proposal writing and securing multiple grants
  • Strong writing skills in English including reliable written grammar and persuasive writing skills
  • Able to learn quickly with an exceptional ability to process, understand and successfully assimilate information
  • Excellent project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, performance-oriented environment
  • Able to think strategically and execute projects and convey their impact to various audiences
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Team oriented; able to interact professionally with a diverse population of colleagues and stakeholders
  • Highly organized; able to check work-products for accuracy, set priorities and meet objectives and deadlines with limited direction while working remotely,

Preferred Qualifications

  • Resident of the greater Cleveland area
  • Experience working with an international nonprofit/NGO.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Box and/or project management software
  • Familiarity with issues in IEEFA’s field of work (energy, finance, or climate issues)
  • Experience or education in addressing criteria for measuring the impact of grant-funded work; proficiency collecting, organizing and analyzing meaningful program data and evaluation metrics.
  • Experience presenting statistics and data in meaningful ways, such as charts and tables, to internal and external audiences

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree

Salary

$69,000 – $81,500; Salary commensurate with experience.

Work Schedule: Full time, 40 hours/week. General hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, however IEEFA is an international organization working with international funders, so some late evening or early morning work will be required due to time zone differences.

Travel: Some travel is required including quarterly trips to Cleveland (if the employee lives outside of the area). All global team members attend IEEFA’s annual conference and international team retreat.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: The Grants Manager may work a hybrid remote/in office schedule.  Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back and neck strain.
