Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage

REPORTS TO:   Managing Director

SCHEDULE:        Full Time

SUMMARY

The Director of Development oversees the Museum’s fundraising efforts and plays a significant role in furthering the work and mission of the Museum. As a member of the management team, they ensure the development and success of the organization by instilling a culture of philanthropy, coordinating fund development, contributing to strategic planning, and addressing development issues within the organization. The successful applicant will build lasting relationships with donors and keep them informed on how their financial input is making the world a better place. Preferred candidates will be self-motivated, deadline-driven multitaskers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the board of trustees, development committee and Managing Director to create and implement a fundraising plan.
  • Collaborate with the External Relations team to develop a digital fundraising strategy.
  • Work together with a network to identify and build relationships with new donors.
  • Maintain relationships with existing donors and sponsors.
  • Collaborate with key volunteers and conduct in-person solicitations
  • Initiate, plan, and supervise execution of donor-centered activities including fundraisers, cultivation, and recognition events.
  • Oversee all development and membership initiatives, including annual fundraising appeals, annual membership drive, gift processing and acknowledgments.
  • Build external relationships to enhance museum program development and implementation.
  • Identify new major gift sources and maximize the closure of short- and long-term gifts and corporate partnerships.
  • Supervise grant submissions to secure government and foundation support.
  • Develop and monitor project budgets.

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in nonprofit resource development and fundraising
  • Excellent writing, communication and negotiating skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Proficiency with maintaining constituent records and donor management in CRM database; experience with Blackbaud’s Altru database a big plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other commonly used business technology tools
