POSITION

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Development (DOD) is responsible for planning,  organizing, and executing MedWish’s fundraising efforts. This includes but is not limited to donor  cultivation, major gifts, events, campaigns, marketing and communications, planned giving, corporate  engagement/giving, and in-kind giving. The DOD will work closely with the ED and the Board of Directors  in all development and fundraising endeavors. The DOD is also responsible for managing and directing  the Development arm of MedWish.

Leadership and Management

∙ As a member of the executive team, the DOD will assist with setting goals and priorities for the  organization, day-to-day team management and development, and work to continuously  develop and improve systems and strategies to meet business goals and objectives.

∙ Manage and oversee the completion of the duties/responsibilities of the development arm of  MedWish. This includes, but may not always be limited to, the Marketing & Communications  Coordinator, Advancement Assistant, and Volunteer Coordinator.

∙ Represent MedWish by attending meetings, speaking engagements, and events with external  stakeholders and groups.

Development and Fundraising

∙ In collaboration with the Executive Director, align MedWish’s fundraising initiatives with  MedWish’s strategic plan and pursue the agreed upon goals, strategies, and tactics.

∙ Develop and pursue an annual development plan and timeline, including stakeholder outreach,  strategic asks, donor cultivation, events, and prospect research.

∙ Monitor and evaluate these activities to ensure that MedWish’s fundraising goals are being  achieved, evaluate progress and inefficiencies in efforts, and make needed adjustments.

∙ Monitor trends in the community and/or region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary.

∙ Foster an understanding of philanthropy within the organization.

∙ Insure that MedWish’s fundraising initiatives are in accordance with ethical fundraising  principles.

∙ Manage, pursue, and cultivate relationships with stakeholders, prospective donors and supporters. This includes all level of donors, from volunteers and first time donors to corporate  support and major gifts.

∙ Through the management of the Advancement Assistant, oversee the donor database which  respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information.

∙ Grow, establish, manage and/or maintain gift recognition efforts and special recognition  programs.

∙ Develop and gain approval for an annual income and expenditure budget for fundraising efforts.

∙ Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, and expenditure related to fundraising.

∙ Organize, attend and actively participate in Staff/Board Development Committee meetings.

Events

∙ Oversee the development, planning, and execution of multiple special fundraising events each  year, including an annual Gala.

∙ Monitor event success and adapt event strategies as needed. This includes revenue generation, donor engagement, growth in awareness of MedWish, and the execution of the event.

∙ Pursue, cultivate, and secure event sponsorships and in-kind donors.

∙ Manage vendor relationships.

∙ Establish and manage event committees.

∙ Maintain event budgets, both pertaining to revenue and expenses.

Communications

∙ Oversee the Marketing & Communications Coordinator and Marketing Committee’s efforts to  develop and execute a comprehensive communication and marketing plan to promote  MedWish to its stakeholders and maximize public awareness.

∙ In collaboration with the Marketing & Communications Coordinator and Marketing Committee,  prepare annual flyers, bi-annual newsletters, an annual financial report, event collateral, and  other print and online materials.

∙ Ensure that MedWish’s branding is in keeping with the organization’s goals and standards.

Other Responsibilities

∙ Conduct facility tours and presentations.

∙ Assist with facility maintenance and cleaning needs as requested.

∙ Exhibit conduct that reflects MedWish’s core values.

∙ Assist with mission critical projects such as events, clerical projects, and the annual inventory  audit.

∙ Conduct the monthly Safety Audit at least once per year.

∙ Assist with donation drop offs.

∙ Follow MedWish’s health and safety protocols and standards, and promote a safe and  productive work environment for all staff, volunteers, and visitors.

REQUIREMENTS

∙ Bachelor’s degree or higher. All fields welcome, but majors in non-profit  management/administration, health, business, sales, international relations/development,  medicine, and communications preferred.

∙ At least 3-5 years of development/fundraising experience in the nonprofit field.

∙ At least 2 years of management experience.

∙ Demonstrated experience using a donor database. Experience in Little Green Light is preferred but not required.

∙ Demonstrated experience executing fundraising events.

∙ Demonstrated experience with donor cultivation and securing gifts through personal asks.

∙ Strong English written and oral communication skills with outgoing and patient demeanor.

∙ Strong computer skills (email, Internet research, Microsoft Office programs, and Google apps).

∙ Excellent people skills.

∙ Demonstrated resourcefulness in manage multiple priorities under pressure and under tight  timelines, while proposing new ways of creating efficiencies.

∙ Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task while also being willing to “roll up the sleeves”.

∙ Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of MedWish.

∙ Must embrace the mission of MedWish International.

∙ Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and volunteers.

∙ Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.

∙ Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence,  self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability.

∙ Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, non-traditional work environment.

∙ Work select evenings and weekends on occasion for meetings, during major campaigns, and  special events.

∙ Must pass a background check and drug screen.

∙ Ability to lift 25 pounds.
